Picture with 1993 John Doe (Andrew Bookless with his grandfather)

Real Name: Unknown
Nicknames: None known
Location: Somers, New York
Date: June 13, 1993

Details: On June 13, 1993, the body of an unidentified man was found in the Titicus Reservoir in Somers, New York. He had a backpack with 38 pounds of rocks in it. Authorities put his dental records in a national database, but could find no match. The only clue to his identity was a photograph found in the backpack. It appeared to be a black and white one from the 50s or 60s and showed a toddler with a man who may have been his grandfather. The investigators believe that he is the toddler in the picture, but he remains unidentified.
Suspects: None known
Extra Notes: The case was requested by the New York State Police to be aired on Unsolved Mysteries, but it was denied.
Results: Solved. In January 2008, the man was finally identified as a missing man named Andrew Bookless. He was identified as the young boy in the photograph after a woman recognized the building in the background as being the house where Bookless and his family lived in the 60s. The man that was holding him was his grandfather, and the investigators learned that his parents had died, but his siblings were still alive and notified of his death. They also learned that the reason why it took so long for him to be identified was because he was not reported missing until 1999.
