Case[]
Details: At around 4pm on December 13, 1982, nineteen-year-old David Thies left his New York City apartment and went into the hallway to smoke a cigarette. When he did not return, his mother, Karen DiGia, thought it was strange as it was his father's birthday. Earlier in the day, he had gone out to buy a gift for him. That evening, he planned to make a salad or something for the birthday dinner.
Karen also recalls that before his disappearance, David was flipping the channels of the news reports obsessively as if he felt threatened by something he saw. His parents put up a $25,000 reward for information on his disappearance. After it was posted, more than 40 people contacted the police to report having seen him in California. The witnesses either saw him selling "junk" on the street or hanging around with a cult group. Despite these sightings, he has never been located.
According to psychiatric social workers, David has suicidal tendencies. Karen said that he was depressed several weeks before his disappearance. However, no evidence has been found to suggest that he committed suicide.
