Location: Lake Superior, Minnesota
Date: May 12, 1982

Case

Details: Larry and Debby Race were on a late night boat ride on May 12, 1982 in Lake Superior when their boat sank. He survived, but she drowned in what was mostly considered a murder, purposely allowed to freeze to death in the lake. He was soon arrested and charged with her murder. The raft that she was on after leaving the sinking boat became a key piece of evidence and controversy in the case. He was later found guilty of her murder, although he proclaimed his innocence by saying he never wanted her to die; many people including his in-laws and her parents believe in his innocence.
Suspects: None known
Extra Notes: The case first aired on the December 18, 1991 episode.
Results: Unsolved. After all possible appeals were exhausted unsuccessfully, Larry was eventually released on parole after serving twenty-two years of his life sentence, pursuant to statute allowing him to be considered for parole after seventeen years. He continues to maintain his innocence. No other person has ever come out to prove his claim of it.
