Case

Details: Jeanine Nicarico was home sick with the flu in February 1983 when she was kidnapped, raped and murdered. Her body was found two days later. The police eventually arrested Rolando Cruz, Alejandro Hernandez and Stephen Buckley in March 1984 for Jeanine's murder. Charges against Buckley were later dropped, but Cruz and Hernandez recieved the death penalty in a joint trial, but a man named Brian Dugan confessed to Jeanine's murder in November of 1985, and that along with evidence has many believe that the three men are innocent, but they remain in prison.

Extra Notes: This segment originally aired on the February 9, 1993 episode of Unsolved Mysteries.
Results: Solved. In 1995, Alejandro Hernandez's conviction was overturned and he was released. A few months later, Rolando Cruz was re-tried for the murder and was acquitted. In 2002, Cruz was pardoned by the Illinois governer In 2005, Brian Dugan was charged, tried and convicted of Jeanine's murder and he was sentenced to death on November 10, 2009, but the death penalty was ended in 2011 and Dugan was sentenced to life in prison.
