In January of 2014, detectives learned that his wife Mary had been living under the assumed name Amanda Murray. When questioned, she admitted that he had been living in Gold Bar, Washington under the alias Dave Murray and had died from pancreatic cancer in 2012. She claimed to have buried him in the back yard. Police searched her property and found his skeletal remains.
