Details: Around the town of White House, Texas, Detective Mark Gagliardo was regarded as a model police officer. In 1992, his work with troubled youth offenders earned him a statewide "Policeman of the Year" award. No one guessed that Gagliardo was exploiting the same boys he was claiming to help. His secret life was uncovered in 1995 when a young man came forward with the shocking allegation that he had be sexually molested by Gagliardo. Three additional youths soon came forward with similar allegations. As a result, he was arrested and charged with multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
On April 17, 1995, Gagliardo was convicted of all counts and sentenced to sixty years in prison. However, he vanished when he was allowed to visit his family before the sentence began. Gagliardo is adept at changing his appearance and may be working in Law Enforcement or with kids. He is believed to be traveling with a twenty-two-year-old man.
Extra Notes: This case first aired as a Special Bulletin on the April 4, 1997 episode of Unsolved Mysteries. Gagliardo was also profiled on America’s Most Wanted.
Results: Captured. In April of 2000, after being featured on America's Most Wanted, tipsters placed Gagliardo in Atlanta, Georgia. However, he vanished before he could be arrested. Then, on June 2, 2000, Gagliardo was arrested at a hotel in San Francisco, Califirnia. He was returned to Texas and is now serving his sixty year sentence. He will not be eligible for parole until 2020.
