Details: Shannon Davis lived in Michigan with her husband David. On July 23rd, 1980, while out horseback riding together, David ran back to the ranch in a frenzy, claiming that Shannon had been thrown from her horse and was in desperate need of medical attention. She died before they returned to the spot where she had supposedly fallen. An investigation of the scene revealed something suspicious in that she just happened to die from a blow to the head with a single rock in an open area.
Suspects: David was immediately suspected in his haste to cremate Shannon's body and obtain the money in her life insurance policy. Her parents had to get a court order to prevent it. It has also been revealed that he was engaging in several shady activities, but before the authorities could make an arrest, he vanished.
Extra Notes: This case first aired on the November 29, 1987 episode. It was profiled on America’s Most Wanted and documented on American Justice, Forensic Files, and The New Detectives after David was captured. In 1993, A TV-movie, "Victim of Love: The Shannon Mohr Story" was released on it.
Results: Solved. After several years on the run, David was finally arrested by U.S. Marshals in Samoa. He was convicted of Shannon's murder and sentenced to life in prison. He died in a prison hospital in 2014.
