Help With Locating An Episode[]

Hi Thor2000,

I am looking for an episode that supposedly appeared on Unsolved Mysteries. I don't have any details far as a season or when it was originally broadcast on.

The episode would involve the ghost hautings by Genevieve Stickney. Her husband, J.W. Stickney, had an affair with the nurse that was taking care of Genevieve. When J.W. passed away, he left his fortune to the nurse and the mansion to Genevieve. At some point Genevieve ended up committing suicide in the elevator in the mansion.

At some point the mansion was turned into a restaurant and there have been incidents of unexplained things.

I've personally been to the restaurant on multiple occasions, and on one particular occassion experienced what I believe to be a result of Genevieve Stickney's ghost.

The restaurant has gone by different names such as The Bowers Harbor Inn, The Harbor Inn, or Mission Table. It is located in Traverse City, MI.

I will check back periodically to see if you posted a reply. I sure hope you know the episode I'm talking about.

  • Hi!!! Don't know what to call you, but I've tried to stayed to stay very familiar with the haunted location segments on "Unsolved Mysteries." I was a Paranormal Researcher for a few years, and today, I keep a huge personal database of haunted sites and locations. Unfortunately, the Bowers Harbor Inn has never been on UM. It's not the first location either I've come across that's been falsely attributed to the series. I think this confusion comes from the huge score of locations that have been on obscure paranormal TV shows or featured on local news programs or just confused with locations with cursory similarities. But then again, maybe a segment was filmed but never aired. That sometimes happens. Sorry I wasn't of much help. Thor2000 (talk) 17:26, June 11, 2020 (UTC)

  • I checked my lists for various shows, but I couldn't find anything for Traverse City. I did find this on-line video which looks like it was made for TV and has a format like UM. Could this be what you're looking for? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-BW_Anzexg

New release![]

Hey there! My name's Chris and I'm a Fandom Wiki Manager as part of the Movies/TV vertical. I help many Fandom communities with anything wiki related, whether that be wiki editing, design, coding etc. Happy to help!

I'm here to help out ready for the new season of Unsolved Mysteries which is making its return to Netflix on Wednesday. That should be great for this wiki!

I'd like to help where I can, perhaps an updated background and wordmark ready for the new series? I can also help with anything else you have in mind for the wiki.

I look forward to hearing from you. Hopefully you are keeping safe! :) --Spongebob456 talk 20:16, June 27, 2020 (UTC)

  • Sounds great! Wish I could see the reboot, but I don't get Netflix. (Too Expensive and I'm on Disability.) The background definitely needs to be updated, and the case file pages definitely need to re-formatted by year as they're too large and bulky. I'had the repeat segments edited out for size, but over time, editors have put them back. Hoping to see what you can do for the site (and maybe my Our Gang Wiki, maybe), but let me know first about any HUGE changes. This site is like my baby. Thor2000 (talk) 22:47, June 27, 2020 (UTC)
  • Will make sure I let you know! Key areas at the moment are the theme for the wiki, such as background and wordmark, ready for the new season. We will also need a page for the new series which we can work on. Luckily this community has a lot of active editors so I'm sure we can get articles populated quickly. This wiki will be ready to go come next week! :) --Spongebob456 talk 09:57, June 28, 2020 (UTC)
  • Okay so I've made a few background designs. We don't have many assets to work with so I've had to improvise a little bit but these are in line with the poster released for the series:
You might want to try these in the wiki's theme designer to see how they look. They all look similar but they are positioned slightly differently. If you have any suggestions as to background images to use based on the poster or trailer, please let me know. I'm happy to change any of these. :) --Spongebob456 talk 11:13, June 28, 2020 (UTC)

  • I like the banner, but I'm not sure what I'm looking at with these backgrounds, but then I haven't seen the new UM promos either. As far as the new series, I'd just tteat it like a new season of an on-going series. Every new iteration so far has been treated like a new season, and if the Case Files page can be divided by season, we can put all the links to them on one page. I'd have done it already, but with my type of Autism, I just can't stay focused on one project without getting distracted by a new one. Thor2000 (talk) 15:55, June 28, 2020 (UTC)
  • Hey! I've added the background on my test wiki and also included an image of the poster on the main page to show you where the background came from. That poster is the only one from the show unfortunately. Let me know what you think as I can make some changes.
  • So with the Case Files, I'd like to update Casefiles and split those up into their own separate articles. That would make it easier for users to find them and we can link to them into the wiki navigation. Do you mind if we do that? --Spongebob456 talk 12:35, June 29, 2020 (UTC)
  • Yes, it sounds like what I said. Thor2000 (talk) 17:04, June 29, 2020 (UTC)
  • Can we hold off on backgrounds right now? I want to see if anything better comes up later, Thor2000 (talk) 17:10, June 29, 2020 (UTC)
  • Have you seen the background I uploaded to my test wiki? It is different to the ones I added above. Either way, the current background works totally fine. Would you mind if I added the new wordmark now though?
    • Yeah, go ahead and change it. I figure if a brighter looking format comes up later, we can always change it again. Thor2000 (talk) 22:10, June 29, 2020 (UTC)
  • No need to implement it if you're not a fan. :) I can see if I can find something a bit brighter. As the show uses darker colours that might be more challenging. Can leave the background as it is for now and go from there. Could be a longer term project. --Spongebob456 talk 08:07, June 30, 2020 (UTC)
  • What would be a good idea now is to enlist editors to help out with the content changes (the splitting seasons up into different articles). For this, I would like to enable Discussions to reach out to the community so they can do this for us. Is that all right?
    • You seem to know more about this than I do. Make it so. Thor2000 (talk) 22:10, June 29, 2020 (UTC)
  • Okay, will do it today! I think editors will want to help out. :) --Spongebob456 talk 08:07, June 30, 2020 (UTC)
  • I have created an example of what a season 16 article could look like here and I will create some more soon. I will also add the new season to the main page and navigation with some slight design tweaks :) --Spongebob456 talk 17:30, June 29, 2020 (UTC)
    • It looks good. I can go with that. I would have just paste/clicked each season to a new page, but I wouldn't have known how to make it attractive. Thor2000 (talk) 22:10, June 29, 2020 (UTC)

Account[]

Hey! Wanted start a new thread for this, can I confirmed the email account associated with your Fandom account is the one you still use and monitor? The Yahoo one? If so, we would like to send something there. :) --Spongebob456 talk 13:15, June 30, 2020 (UTC)

  • Yahoo is my public e-mail. I've got a Hotmail as my private one. I accidentally used it to log in with it once whe I forgot my password. Thor2000 (talk) 16:01, June 30, 2020 (UTC)
  • No worries! Which one would you prefer we send something through to? :)
My Yahoo Thor2000 (talk) 21:52, June 30, 2020 (UTC)
Cool! We are sending through something there ;) --Spongebob456 talk 12:25, July 1, 2020 (UTC)
  • Sorry to add another question but while I think of it - is the new Netflix series classed as Season 15 or 16? I know of the online series but didn't know if they was a formal season as such. --Spongebob456 talk 17:53, June 30, 2020 (UTC)
Since the original series ended the CBS Episodes were Season 11, the Lifetime episodes were Season 12 and 13, Spike Tv was Season 14, the on-line episodes were Season 15 and yes, Netflix would be Season 16. Thor2000 (talk) 21:52, June 30, 2020 (UTC)
That makes sense. I only ask as some other websites are calling it Season 15, not classing the web series as its own season as it were. I appreciate the situation is quite complicated given the show has been on quite a few different channels. --Spongebob456 talk 12:25, July 1, 2020 (UTC)
Oh, good job on separating the articles. Wasn't deliberately leaving it to you, was seeing if other editors wanted to get involved. Hopefully you are okay with doing it! :) --Spongebob456 talk 19:05, July 1, 2020 (UTC)
Well, I always knew separating them was going to be a bit tricky, and I figured moving them would be easy to get them done right, and someone could come along later and make them look like your sample for Season 16. I tried to make Season One look like it, and made we can use the different looks of the series for each season. Thor2000 (talk) 20:02, July 1, 2020 (UTC)
Cool! I can go ahead tomorrow and make them look like season 16. Let me know if you got something in your Yahoo inbox, hopefully something should be there soon. --Spongebob456 talk 20:22, July 1, 2020 (UTC)
I haven't seen anything yet Thor2000 (talk)
Hi, just wanted to confirm if you have seen anything in your inbox yet please? Possibly in your spam folder? --Spongebob456 talk 10:25, July 3, 2020 (UTC)
The Netflix thing? Yeah, I saw that, but to confess, I'm a bit embarrassed. You see, I don't watch TV on my computer, and I know its a pretty expensive gift. It's just that I'm very old school; I still watch DVDs, and my laptop is kind of old. Not sure how much life is in it. Usually I just get coupon cards for local restaurants or Amazon credit for buying books or more DVDs, but thank you very much. I don't know what to do with it, and it is a very nice gift, but thank you for the thought. Thor2000 (talk) 17:15, July 3, 2020 (UTC)
Please don't feel embarrassed! Is not a problem at all and please don't feel obliged to use it. You've worked really hard on this wiki and we wanted to reward you for that by hopefully giving you access to watch the latest season of Unsolved Mysteries. Do you have a Smart TV or something? Netflix would operate on that. Even if you don't feel you want to watch the episodes on Netflix, you could activate your Netflix account to at least perhaps take any screenshots you want from each episode. The subscription is there for you to use as you wish. :) --Spongebob456 talk 10:11, July 4, 2020 (UTC)
I have Basic Cable, and that by itself is pretty damn expensive on my Disability Budget (I was diagnosed Autistic after my last suicide attempt). Like I said, I keep my life reduced to just the basics. I barely go out, I focus on my writing and websites and I really have no idea what all the "modern" digital options are. Can't afford them anyway. Thor2000 (talk) 15:43, July 5, 2020 (UTC)
I think you are doing really well with what you are doing and if it works for you you should definitely carry on. The wiki is doing amazing mostly down to your work. I'm similar in that I love physical media like DVDs and even if I can watch the show via streaming, I will always get the physical copy. It feels safer if that makes sense? --Spongebob456 talk 09:18, July 6, 2020 (UTC)
I'm blessed with having really good contributors. I just try to fix the typos, deter the vandalism and correct errors, and, yeah, there's just something about physically owning a copy of a movie or TV show. There's just SO MANY out there that aren't available. Thor2000 (talk) 17:48, July 6, 2020 (UTC)
I know what you mean! A lot of Netflix shows aren't available for physical release which does miss out a large market of viewers. I like the feeling of owning a show and being able to watch offline. Makes vacationing nicer, especially if you don't want Internet access! --Spongebob456 talk 12:54, July 9, 2020 (UTC)

Seasons[]

Hello

Could you rename Season 16, please? --Iron Claw 2 (talk) 20:52, July 1, 2020 (UTC)

- To What? Thor2000 (talk) 23:51, July 1, 2020 (UTC)

- Season 15, obviously. --Iron Claw 2 (talk) 15:00, July 2, 2020 (UTC)

- Well, what would I call Season 15? Season 14 1/2? I mean, I know it's not a real season, but it does come after Season 14 and its not part of the current season, but it does come chronologically in the sequence of cases in the series. Logically, it just makes sense. Thor2000 (talk) 17:29, July 2, 2020 (UTC)

Casefiles page[]

Hi, so I've gone ahead and added the infobox to all Season articles. The one page that housed all those season articles, Casefiles, is now blank so I'm not sure what you want to do with that. I think you said you wanted to link to all the season articles there? I will leave you to format that how you want but infoboxes have been added, possibly just needing additional parameters filled in that you guys will know more than me. --Spongebob456 talk

I think it should just really be left as a REDIRECT Page or as an index page to all the other seasons. I'll figure something out. Thor2000 (talk) 17:29, July 2, 2020 (UTC)

Sounds good! Will leave that with you, let me know if I can help with that. Very happy to report that this wiki has seen a lot of views since the new season premiered! --Spongebob456 talk 10:26, July 3, 2020 (UTC)

Content[]

Hey! In terms of content specifically, do you think help is needed adding more content to articles? We may be able to help with this. Views still looking impressive! --Spongebob456 talk 15:10, July 3, 2020 (UTC)

I don't know how to answer that. I think the site is doing well with the few contributors I have. I just moderate the changes, correct the errors and delete the nonsense. Thor2000 (talk) 17:04, July 3, 2020 (UTC)

No worries! Honestly, I think the community is doing a really good job and they are clearly passionate about the new show. If you feel as if you need help with content on the wiki, please feel free to give me a shout and we may be able to provide assistance. --Spongebob456 talk 10:11, July 4, 2020 (UTC)

UCP[]

Hey again! I wanted to leave messaging about this while the new season premiered, but now there is a bit of a calm down as it were, I wanted to bring up a topic that might affect this wiki in the nearish future.

Have you heard anything about the UCP? This new platform on Fandom is nothing to worry about but it will bring with it some changes that I wanted to talk over with you and to see if we can address any questions/concerns. :) --Spongebob456 talk 13:26, July 16, 2020 (UTC)

I don't know what it is so I'm not really concerned about it. Thor2000 (talk) 16:37, July 16, 2020 (UTC)
It is great you are not concerned as it won't be a huge problem. I can't see too many areas that would affect this wiki, are some user interface changes. Also, I'm not sure if you use this, Special:WikiActivity would no longer function on UCP. Special:Recentchanges would replace it. Is Wiki Activity something you use frequently? --Spongebob456 talk 17:38, July 16, 2020 (UTC)
Hiya, just to let you know the wiki will be migrating to the UCP soon per the banner. Please let me know if you have any questions on this! :) --Spongebob456 talk 13:49, August 14, 2020 (UTC)
As long as the change is slight and imperceptible, I should be alright. Thor2000 (talk) 20:06, August 14, 2020 (UTC)
I can confirm the migration has gone ahead and while the interface of the editor and profile pages has changed slightly, the wiki looks largely the same and the migration looks to have gone smoothly. Have you noticed any big changes since migration? --Spongebob456 talk 13:01, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
Nothing yet - Thor2000 (talk) 16:09, 20 August 2020 (UTC)

Question about Other countries[]

Hi have a question. Can other countries with unsolved mysteries be posted here, or is it only the USA and Canada?

Because if it includes other countries i might suggest cases like The Brabant Killers, The istal woman and the peter Bergmann case.

- If you look at those tags at the bottom of the pages, we do have cases listed by country, but American cases are listed by state, and Canada are listed by province. All of those areas are grouped by country. All other foreign cases are listed by country. This page lists all countries with cases on this site.

https://unsolvedmysteries.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Location

And this page lists cases not covered by "Unsolved Mysteries."

Suggestions

The only real requirements are that each case is formatted correctly on this site without editing the templates. Murders have their own template, so do Missing Persons and the rest, plus the tags are done in a sequence. We're also big sticklers on grammar and spelling. Thor2000 (talk) 17:56, July 27, 2020 (UTC)

Volume 2![]

Hey! I see the trailer for Volume 2 of Unsolved Mysteries released which is great! I'll go ahead and add it to the Season 16 article and make a post in Discussions. October 19 it releases! How're things on the wiki? --Spongebob456 talk 17:00, 11 October 2020 (UTC)

Still mostly editing. Making sure the site still meets my expectations, like getting rid of odd tags and bizarre updates. Thor2000 (talk) 21:38, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
Oh? What bizarre updates have you been seeing? --Spongebob456 talk 16:25, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
I'm always seeing some joker adding unnecessary tags to the existing tags or adding irrelevant info to the pages. Some vandals insist on erasing large volumes of text from the pages or replacing words with profanity. As a result, several pages are blocked from editing. Thor2000 (talk) 18:01, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
Oh okay, so more of a vandalism issue yeah? Are you managing that okay? In terms of volume 2, we may see a bit more traffic on the wiki when it airs which is positive! Are you still not in a position to watch? --Spongebob456 talk 18:30, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
To be honest, I've been so distracted these days by other projects, I'm not watching much TV except a few TV shows. The other guys submitting here are doing a great job, so I'm leaving it mostly to them. These days, my autism is so bad its become harder to write long lines of text. Thor2000 (talk) 20:18, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
That's totally understandable, you must put what you feel comfortable with first. The community are certainly very vigilant. Today's premiere day, I will keep an eye on the stats and see how the wiki does! :) --Spongebob456 talk 18:09, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
We saw a nice big jump! Hopefully that can continue to increase. :D --Spongebob456 talk 21:24, 20 October 2020 (UTC)

Wiki spiff[]

Hi Thor - how are things going? I was wondering if I would be able to update the main page again to reflect part 2 of the Netflix series and also to remove two of the red links there please. The wiki navigation also needs to include episode links to part 2. Am I good to go ahead with that please? If there are any other changes you would like me to make (or not make) please let me know. Many thanks! --Spongebob456 talk 15:40, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

- Of course, go for it. I'm not very good at designing a decent main pagee anyway. Thor2000 (talk) 19:04, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

Great! Will do. Did you want more of a main page redesign? I was more going to update information, but if you want a new look I can do that too? --Spongebob456 talk 10:09, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
I kind of like the design; the guy who did it really did a good job on it, but any update is a good update even if its just on information. Thor2000 (talk) 18:12, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
Ok no worries! I added a section for volume 2, removed some red links, and added the latest trailer. Is there anything more you'd like me to do on the main page? Conscious I know you said you like the design, so if there's any tweaks I can or information to be added please let me know. --Spongebob456 talk 19:02, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
I'm good. Thor2000 (talk) 17:57, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Thank-you!

Hey Thor2000! I just wanted to say thank-you for defending the amount of detail I put into the "Jaycee Dugard" page. As someone else noted, it is true she wasn't on "Unsolved Mysteries" as a case but as you said, there's no reason this Wiki can't be more than what it is. Personally, I think it would great if to some degree possible we became a resource for True Crime Podcasters or those who do videos on True Crime! So thank-you! Mjm076 (talk) 03:55, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

  • There *IS* a place on here for sharing videos. I just haven't used it. Thor2000 (talk) 19:53, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

Policies[]

Hey Thor! Have you thought about adding policies to this wiki for behaviour of users? I know you have Instructions for articles (which are great!) but having a policy for users would be good. What do you think? Spongebob456 (talk) 13:17, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

- I haven't thought about it. I've just always thought of people as inherently good, but I'll think about it and try to put something together. Remind me if I haven't posted anything after two weeks. Thor2000 (talk) 18:02, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

I think I saw you post something earlier and they look good! As they're at the bottom of the Instructions page, they may be difficult for users to find. Is it worth creating a separate Policies page? Alternatively, in the wiki navigation, you could link to them as Instructions#Policies|Instructions. Spongebob456 (talk) 19:56, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
I tried making a link to it on the main page; do you think that will work? Thor2000 (talk) 16:02, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi! Sorry for the late reply. Using the main page is good! And in the nav is good too where you have Instructions already. Good job. :) Spongebob456 (talk) 18:49, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

Article Deletion?[]

Hi Thor, I posted on the "Discuss" section my preliminary findings regarding "The Kazakhstan UFO" case (see https://unsolvedmysteries.fandom.com/f/p/4400000000000066352). I've since contacted Unsolved Mysteries and received a reply thus: "Thank you for reaching out to Unsolved Mysteries. On September 18, 1994, the episode that aired was about several different UFO sightings. That episode is currently streaming on Amazon Prime, YouTube, and many more...and it is season 7, episode 21 with Robert Stack. It does not appear that the Kazakhstan UFO was profiled in this episode, and we have been unable to find a mention of it appearing in the series." Accordingly in light of this new information may I suggest the article be deleted from the site (https://unsolvedmysteries.fandom.com/wiki/The_Kazakhstan_UFO) since it seems not to have ever been featured in the series. Also, once actioned if you're able to can you please delete my post on the "Discuss" page as I'm not given any option to delete it myself? TIA! Darkcolt (talk) 04:37, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

  • I'm sorry, I can't follow what you're asking about; could you clarify a bit? Thor2000 (talk) 21:07, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
So I've been trying to find a video of The Kazakhstan UFO case to no avail. It is listed on site (and other sources) as supposedly being profiled in the 9-18-1994 episode of Unsolved Mysteries. This episode was later repeated on 3-31-1995. According to one online source this latter repeat episode supposedly omitted The Kazakhstan UFO case, but retained the other cases that aired in the original 9-18-1994 episode (which were The Allagash Abducations; Roswell Crash; and Area 51). I've seen a video of the repeat episode (3-31-1995) and a friend has seen a video of the original episode (9-18-1994) and in both The Kazakhstan UFO was never included. Now I've received written confirmation from the Unsolved Mysteries staff that this case was never profiled in the entire series itself. From this research I can only deduce that various sites that include this Kazakhstan UFO case as part of the cases profiled in that particular 1993-1994 season episode (S06E33) must be in error. Hence, my recommendation the article detailing this "ghost case" as being profiled in the 9-18-1994 episode be deleted (unless and/or until further evidence comes to light that definitively proves this case was aired on an as yet unidentified Unsolved Mysteries episode, which is unlikely considering the reply by the UM staff). Darkcolt (talk) 05:07, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
  • I think I got your gist, but as the site already includes several cases erroneously credited to Unsolved Mysteries, I edited as I saw fit. Thor2000 (talk) 19:23, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
Fair enough Thor2000 and my thanks for editing the article entry for accuracy! I only noticed it just now and my thinking has been that articles about cases that are erroneously credited to Unsolved Mysteries like The Kazakhstan UFO should be removed otherwise we're only repeating the mistakes other sites are guilty of and instead of providing factual and accurate information about the TV series we become a source of misinformation as well. But, of course, if we can't delete articles about cases that weren't actually profiled on Unsolved Mysteries then at least if we can clarify or make a note in the article entry that it was "erroneously credited to Unsolved Mysteries SXXEXX" as you've done is likewise sufficient. If I come across any other needed corrections I'll let you know. In that regard I noticed another mentioned you have Yahoo! email, but I can't find it anywhere. Otherwise I'll simply message you on your talk page as I've done here over this case. Darkcolt (talk) 03:15, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

News[]

Hey there Thor! I just wanted to let you know that after some reshuffling, I will no longer be the Wiki Manager for this community. Someone else will be introducing themselves shortly, but I will be around in the meantime before they introduce themselves to help out. It's been a privilege to work with you and your dedication to this wiki (and many others!) has been amazing. This wiki will continue to grow and I really hope you're able to carry on with it :) Spongebob456 (talk) 10:19, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

  • Keep in touch if you can. I hope your replacement is just as competent and patient. Thor2000 (talk) 16:53, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
    • Replacing me will be Corey who is awesome, if you ever have any issues feel free to contact them! :) --Spongebob456 talk 18:30, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

New Wiki Representative for the Unsolved Mysteries Wiki![]

Hey there!

I'm Cörey, the new Wiki Representative for this community, I'll be taking over for Spongebob456. 😀

Just like Spongebob456, I am here to act as your community's personal liaison with Fandom Staff. As a part-time member of Fandom Staff, I'll be able to help with any issues that you or members of your community may come across.

I'm looking forward to working with you! Please let me know if you have any questions or need any help!

- It's not just the UM Wiki; SpongeBob also helped me with issues on my other Wiki sites. Thor2000 (talk) 22:42, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Greetings from the Fandom team[]

Hello! My name is HumbleX and I'm a WikiSpecialist working for Fandom. I'm here to inform you that when the new Fandom layout is finalized, your current CSS, Wikia.css, will become obsolete. However, I do know that this Fandom does not use CSS whatsoever, which is completely fine. I'm just here to inform you about the change as a courtesy or in case you or someone else decides to start using it in the future. Also, I cannot tell you the date when the new layout will be finalized, however, if you have any other questions related to this, please feel free to ask them and I'll try my best to answer them.

HumbleX (talk) 16:48, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

- I don't know what CSS is; that's why I haven't used it. What will this change mean to my Wiki sites? Thor2000 (talk) 20:04, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi! I'm so sorry for the very late response, I've got no notification that you responded to my previous message so that's why I didn't respond until now...

Css is basically a customization code that allows users to modify things like color, background, text, etc. Most of these things will be transferred to Fandom's new Theme Designer from there you can then import most of your Fandom's old theme such as color background, text, etc. You cannot, however, import the wiki logo, banner, or custom background image. The wiki logo and banner must be reuploaded through Theme Designer and the custom image background must be done through css, which I can most certainly do for you on here. Any other Fandom that you're responsible for can either be done by you, another savvy Fandom Design user, or by your assigned Wiki Rep.

Also, I believe aside from the background that this Fandom is ready to be marked down as ready for FD (Fandom Desktop). So, it'd be ideal if you'd mark this Fandom as ready from the admin dashboard by Saturday of this week or I can do it for you.

And again, I'm sorry for not promptly responding to you before, it's been hectic these past few weeks... and I'll be sure to respond to any questions you may have in a timely manner this time around.

HumbleX (talk) 15:13, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

- I couldn't follow what you told me. Do you mean I have to back up my custom background? Does this apply to all of my other Fandom sites? I would really appreciate an assist on this. I've been overwhelmed and stressed a lot these days. Thor2000 (talk) 15:40, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

I'm sorry I wasn't clear with you before, I myself am trying to learn this all of myself too, so if my explanation is inadequate, I sincerely apologize. What I meant by "Custom background" if you have an image like this someone would have to use css for it to work on FD. And this mainly only applies to all of the Fandoms that you're an admin/bureaucrat for. For the other ones, you'll have to ask your assigned WikiRep to help you out for them. Also, I can help you with this Fandom's background and will do it on Friday. Finally, I'm sorry to hear that you're overwhelmed and stressed a lot these days, I can relate.

HumbleX (talk) 19:27, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

I've got several Wiki sites, but only two of them, this one and my Our Gang Wiki have custom backgrounds. Would that one need to be done CSS too? I don't think I have a WikiRep right now, but I could use one to cover stuff like this. My last Wiki Rep was Spongebob456, but he had to move on, and his replacement, Corey, well, I haven't heard from him in a while. Could you handle this for me? Will my Wiki pahes without custom backgrounds need this too? Thor2000 (talk) 21:09, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Corey your WikiRep here has stepped down and I'm temporarily filling in for him. Also, the other wiki with a custom BG, "Our Gang Wiki" will most certainly need to have the same css work done for it. I personally can't do it, but I can do it for here like I said I would on Friday.

The other wikis that you're responsible for that do not have custom backgrounds do not need the same css work done for them unless you do want them to. For them, you'll just need to go into the Wiki's Theme Designer and import the color, font styles, etc. to FD. It's also keen to note that you'll have to re-upload your wiki logos for each and everyone one of those wikis as well. Sadly the wiki logos are not imported.

HumbleX (talk) 21:25, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

- If you can do it for me here, a give me a step by step process how to do iy there, I'd really appreciate it. Thor2000 (talk) 17:32, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

I most certainly will and try to explain it the best way that I can.

HumbleX (talk) 17:36, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Okay, so I changed the background to this place and I'll try to explain everything to you, hopefully, in a methodical and comprehensive way. I'm a layman in all of this so please try and bear with me.

So first things first: I went into Special:ThemeDesigner and imported most of the color text and Community background & Sticky nav background colors. They're basically the top icons that say "Explore, Netflix series, etc." on the top of the page and the button/link colors to article pages, like the "Saves Changes" button.

Next, I went into The Fandom's Fandomdesktop.css and I added the topmost code that's there to both remove the gradient header that was looked rather tacky, however, if you want a banner there still, just tell me and I'll create one for you. If your fandom doesn't have that you'll simply have to create it with "MediaWiki:Fandomdesktop.css?action=edit" at the end of the link.

Finally, I added the code below it to import the image you had on Oasis. To get that image, I right-clicked on the BG and clicked on the "Open image in new tab" link and from there I copied and pasted the Html link to the url () part of the code. Another thing to note is that there are two types of contrasting themes to Wiki Layouts, those being Light & Dark. As their names imply they have a contrasting color scheme to them and for this wiki, I chose light as things should appear more clearly to it. If you were to use the CSS code that I used for this place all you have to do is change where it says "Light" to "Dark".

I hope all of that was clear enough, please tell me what wasn't and I'll try and get back to you whenever I can.

HumbleX (talk) 15:58, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

  • I'm not seeing anything you described after "Open Theme Designer"

00Capture.JPG

That's because you're viewing it through Oasis, you need to go into your preferences and in the Appearance section change it from Oasis to Fandom Desktop.

HumbleX (talk) 17:09, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

  • I took your instructions above and tried to condense it to something I could follow:
    • Preferences: Appearance: Fandom Desktop
    • Special Theme Designer - Import: Color Text, Community Background, Sticky Nav Background
    • Fandom Desktop - Add top most code (Do I want the banner there?)
    • Add code below (What code? Where below?)
    • Right-click on BG and clicked on "Open image in new tab" link
    • Copy and Paste the Html link (what link?) to the url part of the code. (What?)
    • Change "Light" to "Dark"

Does this make sense? Thor2000 (talk) 21:56, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

Most of it is from what I see does make sense, but allow me to clarify to you everything, hopefully, better this time around to which I believe you're having trouble understanding.

  • The banner isn't necessary as it's just a design aesthetic. Personally, I think it's fine without it.
  • By "code below" I meant the CSS code:

.theme-fandomdesktop-light {

   background: #000000 url (https://) no-repeat fixed center top;
   background-size: cover;

}

  • I'm sorry, I didn't mean Html, I meant https: or rather the link to the image used for the Oasis background. The above code where it says "url (https://)" is where you're supposed to post the link for the image you'd like for your wiki's background. I got the image to this wiki by switching back to Oasis, right-clicking on the BG image, clicked on the link that said, "Open image in new tab", and then finally copied and pasted the link to the CSS code. Just like in the small example shown above.
  • I'd keep the theme of this place as Light.

Is any of that clearer to you? And I'm sorry for the confusion, again, I'm a layman when it comes to this so I don't know how to properly explain all of this clearly. It's a learning process for the both of us.

HumbleX (talk) 22:17, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

Are you sure you can't do this for me? I'm trying to write the simplest way to do this, and I'm still getting confused. Thor2000 (talk) 15:43, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

Okay, just post the links to the Fandoms that you'd like the themes transferred over from Oasis to FD below and I'll the work in my free time next week.

HumbleX (talk) 16:40, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

This is the only one: https://ourgang.fandom.com/wiki/Our_Gang_Wikia_Wiki - I'd like to create one for the Scary Movie Wikia and the Land of the Lost Wikia, both of which I've taken over. Are these original backgrounds hard to make? Thor2000 (talk) 16:47, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

Creating an original background isn't hard to make. The background image used for this place is approx. 27 inches high and 14 inches wide, so if you follow those size measurements you should have a good sized background for your Fandoms.

HumbleX (talk) 17:33, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

Three questions: - Do I need to wait till Fandom Desktop is on my other Fandom sites or should it already be there? I don't want to relive this confusion. - I've made a few Screen-Savers for my computer and always struggled with height and width. Should the Paint program on my computer have a place telling me the "true dimensions" to save me a lot of trial and error? - What happened to the "Rename" icon under the "Edit" button? I went to rename a page on one of my Wikia sites and had to create a page anew because I couldn't find the "Rename" function. Where did it go? Thor2000 (talk) 17:47, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

1. FD should already be all set on your other Fandoms. You just need to import whatever you can to them. As for the custom background, just notify me asap when you want them implemented.

2. I'm not sure, as I'm not familiar with your paint program. If anything, any 1920 × 1200 pixel image or bigger should suffice.

3. The rename button has changed from Rename to Move. If you want to rename a page, simply go into Move and go from there.

4. I've made all of the changes possible to the Our Gang Fandom.

Thank you for your help and support! Thor2000 (talk) 18:27, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

You're welcome. If you need any help in the future, in relation to what I've helped you with here either contact me here and I'll try to help you the best I can. If I can't help you, I'll direct you to someone who possibly can.

HumbleX (talk) 19:03, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

    • Thank you - Thor2000 (talk) 21:45, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

Re:Weird File[]

Hi, that weird file that you found is actually the image file to the background of the Fandom. I think you can't delete it because its needed for reference sake.

HumbleX (talk) 18:14, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

  • Oh.... I thought it was some kind of malware. Thor2000 (talk) 20:44, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

Why?[]

HumbleX, could you look into why the left side margin on the Changes page seems to have moved to the left a bit? It's moved over and shrunk the area a bit. Thor2000 (talk) 15:43, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
