Details: Con man Wardell Ford and a friend, David Temple, robbed an armored car driven by Charles Birmingham on February 22, 1983 at a stop in Detroit, Michigan. Ford and Temple held Birmingham at gunpoint, but Birmingham pulled out his own gun and tried to take Temple's gun. The two fell to the floor. Meanwhile, Ford stole $45,000 and began shooting at the two men. Temple and Birmingham were both killed. Ford was charged with murder, but vanished before he could be arrested.
Extra Notes: The original air date for this case was on January 3, 1990, it aired in an FBI Alert with Larry Chism. Ford was also profiled on America’s Most Wanted during the investigation.
Results: Captured. On September 7, 1990, Ford was arrested under the alias Michael Collins at a Connecticut shipyard. He was charged with two counts of murder and one count of armed robbery. He was convicted and is serving a term of life with no parole eligibility.
